Oncology Payment Models

Community oncology practices are signaling readiness to take on more value-based oncology payment arrangements, but persistent barriers—administrative burden, data fragmentation, drug cost exposure, and limited practice resources—continue to slow participation and scalability. The near-term tension for CMS/CMMI and commercial payers is whether successor models to OCM/EOM-style oncology payments can better support independent practices while still holding them accountable for total cost, quality, and patient experience in cancer care (AJMC).
